About Cedar River National Grassland
Cedar River National Grassland spans 6,714 acres across North Dakota as a working landscape managed by the Forest Service. The grassland supports dispersed recreation including camping, fishing, hunting, and wildlife viewing across native prairie habitat. Visitors can explore the area by vehicle on scenic drives and access trails for hiking and photography. The site is most accessible during the warmer months from late spring through early fall, with summer offering the most stable conditions. Winter weather can be severe and limit access, while spring and fall present variable conditions typical of the northern Great Plains.
