About Colville National Forest

Colville National Forest spans nearly 750,000 acres across northeastern Washington, offering a mix of forested terrain and backcountry access for visitors seeking solitude and self-reliance. The forest supports a range of outdoor pursuits: hikers and backpackers find established trails throughout the landscape, while dispersed camping allows you to set up camp in undeveloped areas across the forest. Fishing is available in streams and lakes scattered across the property, and scenic driving routes provide views without leaving your vehicle. Hunting seasons run through fall and early winter for those with proper licensing.

Access is straightforward from surrounding communities, and the forest is generally passable from late spring through early fall. Winter brings snow at higher elevations and can close or restrict some routes, making summer and early fall the most reliable seasons. Spring runoff can affect stream crossings and trail conditions. As a multiple-use National Forest managed by the US Forest Service, Colville welcomes recreationists but requires visitors to practice Leave No Trace principles and obtain necessary permits or licenses for hunting and fishing.
