The 71 listings in this area range from the full-hookup Crested Butte RV Resort near town to backcountry campsites along Cement Creek and the more remote Washington Gulch corridor, where sites like WG 1 through WG 48 give you access to wildflower meadows and ridgeline views without much infrastructure. Lake Irwin Campground sits above 10,000 feet and fills up fast on summer weekends, particularly in late July when the wildflowers peak. The Cement Creek drainage offers its own cluster of sites — Lower Cement Creek CC 1-4, Cement Creek Campground, and individual sites like CC9 through CC15 — which tend to be quieter than the more trafficked Washington Gulch spots. Most of the forest sites are primitive, meaning you're bringing your own water or filtering from nearby streams. It depends on where you're headed. Lake Irwin and Cement Creek Campground operate on a reservation system during peak season, so showing up without one on a summer weekend is a gamble. Many of the individual Washington Gulch and Cement Creek dispersed sites are first-come, first-served, but they still fill by Thursday evening in July and August. Weekday arrivals give you the best shot at a walk-up spot.

The tradeoff is less dramatic scenery compared to the Washington Gulch corridor.
The Crested Butte RV Resort is the clearest option for full-size rigs with hookups. Some of the larger grouped sites like Campsites GC 4-8, GC 9-12, and WG 33-37 can accommodate smaller trailers, but the forest roads leading to many individual WG and CC sites are narrow and rutted, and not suitable for anything long or low-clearance. Check road conditions with the Gunnison Ranger District before hauling a trailer into the backcountry sites.
