Andreafsky Wilderness Area

Andreafsky Wilderness Area spans nearly 1.6 million acres across Alaska and is managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as a federally protected Wilderness. This is primitive backcountry where motorized travel, mechanized equipment, and roads are prohibited—visitors must move on foot or by paddle.

The area offers backpacking and hiking for those seeking remote solitude and untracked terrain. Access is limited and typically requires flying in or paddling; there are no road connections to trailheads. Visitors must be self-sufficient, prepared for variable weather, and committed to Leave No Trace principles. The wilderness season is short, concentrated in summer and early fall months when weather and daylight permit safe travel.

This is not a destination for casual day hikes or developed trails. Plan for genuine backcountry navigation, survival skills, and the physical demands of traveling in Alaska's interior. Winter conditions make access extremely difficult and dangerous outside the brief summer window.
