Ashdown Gorge Wilderness

Ashdown Gorge Wilderness is a 7,084-acre federally protected Wilderness Area in Utah managed by the Forest Service. It preserves a primitive backcountry landscape where hiking and backpacking are the primary ways to experience the terrain. Like all designated Wilderness, the area is closed to motorized vehicles, mountain bikes, and mechanized travel of any kind—foot traffic and stock animals are the only allowed means of access.

Visitors come here for backcountry solitude and the challenge of traveling through roadless terrain. The wilderness rules are straightforward but real: there are no maintained facilities, no developed trailheads in the traditional sense, and you are expected to practice Leave No Trace principles throughout your visit. Access typically requires knowledge of approach routes and willingness to navigate unmarked or minimally maintained paths. Spring through early fall is the most reliable season, though snow and weather can close or complicate routes during winter months.
