The Avawatz Mountains Wilderness Area sprawls across nearly 95,000 acres of federally protected backcountry in California, managed by the Bureau of Land Management. This is primitive, non-motorized terrain where the landscape unfolds without roads, motors, or mechanized travel of any kind. Visitors come here to hike and backpack into genuine solitude, moving through the wilderness on foot alone.

Wilderness rules are strict and straightforward: no vehicles, no mountain bikes, no helicopters or drones. Leave No Trace principles apply everywhere. You pack in everything you need and pack out all waste. Water and reliable trailheads require advance research and careful planning.
