Barbours Creek Wilderness

Barbours Creek Wilderness is a 5,507-acre federally protected wilderness area in Virginia, managed by the Forest Service. It offers backcountry hiking and backpacking in a primitive, roadless setting where solitude and undeveloped landscape are the main draw. As a designated Wilderness Area, the landscape is free from roads, motorized travel, and mechanized equipment—making it ideal for hikers and backpackers seeking authentic wilderness experience.

Visiting means embracing Leave No Trace principles: pack out everything you pack in, stay on established routes where they exist, camp below treeline away from water sources, and respect the non-motorized character of the place. Access is on foot only. Spring and fall offer mild conditions, while summer brings warm weather but occasional thunderstorms. Winter snow and ice can make travel hazardous.
