Bear Wallow Wilderness

Bear Wallow Wilderness is an 11,235-acre federally protected Wilderness Area in Arizona, managed by the Forest Service. The area offers backcountry hiking and backpacking in a primitive, non-motorized landscape where solitude and undeveloped terrain are the draw.

This is true wilderness: no roads, motorized vehicles, or mechanized travel are permitted. Visitors must travel on foot or horseback and adhere to Leave No Trace principles. Access requires self-reliance and route-finding skills typical of remote backcountry travel.

Season and weather will determine your visit. Spring and fall offer moderate conditions, while summer brings heat and winter can bring snow and cold at higher elevations. Plan accordingly and check conditions with the Forest Service before heading out.
